Research in materials is aimed at a particular product with specific proprieties. Particulate materials processing offers unique advantages to fabricate near net-shape components using materials that cannot be processed otherwise. Products such as drill bits, porous platinum, niobium and titanium structures for medical applications, and thermal management devices can be produced only via powder consolidation and sintering. Further, the ability to tailor the microstructure by changing the particle and processing characteristics make it a high-productivity technique for complex geometries.

Areas of emphasis:

  • Rocket components
  • Military components
  • Lead free materials
  • Wear resistant structures
  • Medical
